Haidee Shields (nee Stacey) was born in Aldbourne in 1917 and lived in the village for some forty years before the course of her life took her to Reading.
She was the daughter of Albert Stacey, a significant influence and leader of Aldbourne Band in the early 1900’s.
| Haidee’s love affair with the village in general and the Band in particular continued throughout her life and a visit to the summer “Pond Concerts” was a real pleasure for her. She lost her sight at the latter end of her life and she relied upon entertainment through her CD collection more and more. Sadly she died suddenly in July 2002, just before her 85th birthday.

I felt inspired to honour the memory of Haidee, my mother, and to fund the making of Aldbourne Band’s first CD seemed the most appropriate way – she would most definitely have put her order in!
